Description
Thin, large-format panels of natural crystalline marble, onyx or alabaster, reinforced on the underside or surface with extra-clear annealed or tempered glass.
Specifications
Marble or onyx cut into extra-thin sheets become translucent, allowing natural light to pass through. The colours and veining of natural marble are enhanced by artificial light (LED), to create a unique and outstanding appearance.
For applications such as bar tops, table tops, vanity units and kitchen surfaces, the glass should be placed on the external surface to protect the marble from chemical attack.
For certain applications, marble or onyx may be also placed in a sandwich between two extra-clear glass sheets.
Thickness/weight
Marble thickness: 4 to 6mm
Extra-clear annealed or tempered glass thickness: 6 to 12mm
Weight per m2 of a 14.5mm thick panel: 36kg
(marble: 5mm – glass: 8mm – resin: 1.5mm)
For any other thickness, please contact us.
Standard dimensions
Format: 2400x1200mm
For any other dimensions, please contact us.
Finish of the marble, onyx or alabaster
Polished or honed
Installation
The visible face may be either the marble or the glass, depending on the architect’s preferences and on any particular use constraints (type of premises etc.).
Top and bottom channels, side channels if necessary: glazier’s section, holding the panels over 2cm. Use nylon glazier’s shims to support the edge in the bottom channel.
Avoid the use of black (carbon based) sealants which might migrate into the marble.
Grout and glue with special non-staining silicone, DOW CORNING DC 897, or similar, or polyurethane sealant.
Bird’s beak finish on sharp angles – polished edge – 45° mitre cuts in workshop.
For separating partitions, bar facades, etc., provide a metal plinth or similar to protect the bottom of the panel.
High units should be reinforced by extra-clear glass struts glued perpendicularly to the back of the panels, to prevent the panels from sagging, unless channel sections are used on all four sides.
The minimum gap between two panels should be 2mm, optionally filled with DC 897 silicone or equivalent.
Visible, exposed glazing bolts (monolithic annealed float glass).
Visible, flush-fitting glazing bolts (laminated annealed float glass).
If backlighting is used, allow access to the lamp for maintenance, keep fluorescent lamps at least 15cm from the rear surface to avoid shadows, and ensure that the cavity is sufficiently large and/or well ventilated to avoid overheating.
Backlit on the edges with LEDs.
Applications
Backlit ceilings
Marble on glass
Description
Thin, large-format panel of natural stone (limestone, marble, onyx, slate or granite), reinforced on the underside by an aluminium honeycomb sandwich with 2 epoxy layers.
Specifications
This process provides solutions which are both technical and aesthetic. Combined with aluminium honeycomb, the thin layer of stone overcomes its weight limits and can be used in large formats in a wider range of applications.
Large panels
Ability to use complete slabs of stone or marble full slabs, retaining their natural veining, without unsightly joints.
Light weight
3 to 6 times lighter than 2cm thick stone, these panels can be transported easily, installed quickly and used even on lightweight supporting structures such as plaster board or aluminium frameworks. The procedure overcomes the weight constraints encountered with traditional stone.
Strength
4 to 6 times higher rupture strength than 2cm thick stone, these panels accept high loads, impacts and vibrations inherent in the activity in both private and public places.
Thickness/weight
Stone thickness: 5 to 7mm
Aluminium honeycomb thickness: 5 to 300mm
Weight per m2 of a 25mm thick panel: 16kg
For any other thickness, please contact us.
Standard dimensions
Format: 2400x1200mm
For any other dimension, please contact us.
Finish of the stone, marble, onyx or granite
Polished, honed, brushed.
